Hey Ya’ll! My name is Margaret Hilton and I am a first year counselor at Camp Augusta! I cannot express the excitement I feel when I think of the moments we will share under the trees this summer. The chill bumps are coming alive on my arms as I create for you …  drum roll please….MY BIO!

I was on a horse in the small town of Sumter, South Carolina before I could walk. I took my first steps on the porch of the cabin my Dad built for my family. I spent my early years playing hide and go seek in hay bales. Now, I am finishing up my last month as a Psychology student at the beautiful College of Charleston. With cobble stone under my feet, I walk through campus in awe, often thinking “I can’t believe I live here!” I can jump in the car at dusk and feel the first grain of sand in my toes just as the sun starts setting. I reside in paradise.

Not only has the location of my college town been incredible, I have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge my studies have presented me with for the past four years. I believe in psychology for many reasons, but mainly due to my passion for wanting to help others live a more wonderful life. I want to further my education in the future to study counseling/therapy. Everyone deserves to have someone listen to their thoughts.  We all have the power to perform the dance of life in which freedom creates the beat of the music, not fear. I am extremely fascinated by the inner workings of the human mind and heart. I believe my time spent at Camp Augusta will feed my craving for soul connection with people of all ages and backgrounds.

If I am not studying away in the library, you can find me on the dance floor! I have always agreed with the Van Morrison lyrics, “You can’t dance and stay uptight!” I have career dreams of mingling my love of dance and psychology through dance therapy, bringing others inner peace through movement. You don’t have to be a ballerina to bust a move. Try starting your day tomorrow by turning on your favorite song, closing your eyes, shutting off your brain, and get those toes a tappin’. Before you know it, you will want to dance on the breakfast table. (Warning: not recommended with flimsy tables. I always try to avoid the ER before lunch.)

I have always had a fear of sleep walking through life. Volunteering is one outlet that pushes me to stay engaged with the world’s beautiful struggles. My most memorable volunteer experience would have to be the time I spent in the slums of India. The faces of these children will forever be burned in my mind. The feeling of their hugs is one I miss often. Children are full of surprises and truly amaze me. Spending time with kids helps me keep things in perspective, while having a blast! I look forward to being exposed to all of the different personalities of the children at camp. I know they will color my summer with cheerful yellows and honest blues. I hope to make the kids feel as comfortable as possible at camp. I want my cabin to feel like a home away from home each time they swing open the fabric door.  I can’t wait to hear what each of them has to say, and I look forward to being challenged by them. I want to play with them, laugh with them, and of course… dance with them.

*P.S-Whenever we meet: Ask me what pet I had as a little girl!) *
