Hello World, My name is Josh … people at camp call me Ceramics Guy or Crafty Josh. I am a Nevada City California local. I was born in Nevada City and grew up here in the Foothills of the Sierra Nevada. I like to make things that are made out of clay and other fun arty materials such as wax, feathers, glue, paint, wire etc. Bottom line is that I like to create with my hands. I cook too, I think of all meals as an experiment, and at the end of the experiment you get to eat it, or get someone else to eat it. I enjoy cooking creating desserts pies and cakes mostly. I started working with clay when I was 15 years old, now I am older and have a ceramic life style for myself. I have a goatee beard and some days when I work with clay in the studio, people often call me a “hairy potter” and I say, “Yes, I am.” Working with clay is most fun for me because the medium. Clay is so simple and so squishy. This is my third summer working here at Camp Augusta, I really enjoy it and I am sad when I have to leave and go back to the non-camp world. When a piece of clay is finished and fired, it is call ceramic. Finished ceramic work is glass like and as hard stone and will outlast their creator. That is also what I enjoy about clay, knowing that what I create will outlast me but it will always be a reminder of the creator and their intention.
