Counselor: Counselors - Discover the wish, wonder, and surprise of living with five campers in a cabin in the woods for the summer. Learn more than you ever thought you would about relating to children in a manner that supports their growth and independence. Counselors will also serve as activity area instructors and will take lead on maintenance for a few activity areas after they’ve learnt what is needed. All counselors teach activities, but you tell us which ones you’d like to teach -- there are over 140 choices, plus your creative additions. We can teach you most activity areas, if you bring the fervent desire. And you can teach us if there are new activities that you would like to create here. Counselors are the core of camp. Most counselors spend a session or two outside of the cabin as well, focusing on program or other areas of interest.
Equestrian Director. Our equestrian program is small, 8 horses. We teach predominantly Western riding with a small amount of English and offer both trail rides and basic arena work. The Equestrian Director leads program development and delivery working alongside the Assistant Equestrian Director. In addition to running our program they are responsible for feeding & mucking as well as general herd maintenance. CHA certification (or ability to obtain) or 3+ years leading a similar program required.
Assistant Equestrian Director The Assistant Equestrian Director assists in running our program, feeding & mucking as well as general herd maintenance. Riding experience required, must be comfortable controlling a horse at all gaits and addressing minor behavioral issues (crow hopping, increase in speed, shying) quickly and effectively. Experience teaching and/or CHA certification preferred. Ideal for this person to be able to take the EQ Director position, so a willingness to commit to more than one summer.
Program Director: Organize much of campers’ and staff’s experience of camp by scheduling all the activities and assigning staff to teach them. They are responsible for overseeing the HEROES (counseling staff out of a cabin for a session). Camp Augusta offers over 140 different activities, and several evening programs. During two-week sessions, the Program Director (PD) is responsible for working with Village Leaders and the Master of Fun and Games (MF&G) for weekend programming as well. They schedule 100% of the staff to meet the program needs. Must possess extraordinary logistical skills, keen people skills, creativity, be comfortable navigating a computer, a wealth of excellent program ideas, and have extensive camp experience.
Master of Fun and Games Responsible for making wish, wonder and surprise a reality. Their main areas of responsibility include designing and organizing intricate evening programs and daily Playstations (Augusta’s version of camper’s choice). The limits of what the MF&G can accomplish has yet to be seen! This role requires excellent people and group management skills, an organizational and critical mind, as well as extreme creativity. Village Leader Are the primary support system for counselors. Each village (4-5 cabins) has its own Village Leader (VL) responsible for overseeing the campers’ & staff experience, mainly within village life. Village Leaders organize cabin activities, village activities and ensure that the needs of each camper and cabin are being met. During two-week sessions, they work with the Program Directors and Master of Fun and Games to manage weekend programming. VLs are dedicated to upholding Augusta’s leadership benchmarks, by supporting and challenging counselors to grow and by being beacons within the camp community. Village Leaders must possess excellent communication, grammar and organizational skills. Village Leaders teach approx. one activity a day.
Nurse: Work and play with campers in this residential position. Basic health care is provided to this small community. Serious conditions are referred to local physicians and/or the local hospital. There is ample time to play with the campers, and enjoy camp activities.
Arts Director Oversees all things crafty. They are responsible for keeping up to date on supply needs, for reviewing the engagement and effectiveness of each art activity and its lesson plan, as well as leading the way in developing new and innovated craft projects. The Arts and Crafts Director is also responsible for providing feedback to other arts instructors, for keeping our small rustic craft shack organized and for keeping all paperwork (lesson plans, tips, ordering details, etc.) up to date while teaching approximately 2 activities a day and supporting cabins with any crafty projects of their own.
Office manager Is the main hub for communication between parents and camp. They are responsible for answering phone calls and emails, organizing camper mail, putting together each session’s cabin assignments, paperwork management with regards to registration documents and staff documentation, and much more. This person helps keep camp running smoothly and organized. The Office Manager will teach one to two activities daily. High level customer service skills and multi tasking ability a must. [Filled]
Assistant Director Responsible for general oversight of areas of camp including program (including evening programs), kitchen, health center, transportation, insurance, risk management, and much more. This role requires a person of high emotional intelligence who excels in clear and honest communication. They must embody the Camp Augusta philosophies in their words and actions. Must possess extraordinary logistical skills, keen people skills, creativity, be comfortable navigating a computer, and have extensive camp experience. Experience supervising others in a non-power based environment is desired.
Kitchen Manager The Kitchen Manager is critical to the success of the camp program. Responsible for co-ordinating the creation and delivery of 3 meals a day, plus snack, during the camp season and working with the seven other kitchen staff (an assistant kitchen manager and six kitchen assistants). Food ordering, budgeting, inventory, cooking, staff supervision, staff scheduling, regulations, standards compliance, and creating and documenting processes are just some of the tasks the Kitchen Manager is responsible for. Contrary to some thinking, the kitchen can be a place that is enjoyable, fun, and happy for all concerned. The Kitchen Manager ensures all of these things, and much more. Assistant Kitchen Manager Ensure the smooth functioning of the camp kitchen. Ideally, we are looking for an Assistant Kitchen Manager that has experience in the food service industry and can take a leadership role in the kitchen, organizing, directing and assisting the kitchen assistants in the making and serving of healthy, tasty, properly prepared food. This person will be a resource for other staff that may not have a strong food service background. The Assistant Kitchen Manager will spend the majority of their time working side by side with the Kitchen Assistants, supporting and organizing to ensure that meals and snacks are out promptly so that all the other program and activities can flow smoothly. Other management duties will include assisting with recipe and menu creation, scheduling, group management and evaluation input. Other tasks may be assigned by the Kitchen Manager as needed. Experience with budget and ordering can be made available if desired. In the event the Kitchen Manager can no longer perform his or her duties, the Assistant Kitchen Manager may be asked to step in.
Kitchen Assistant Involves hands on work creating meals under the direction of the Kitchen Manager and Assistant Kitchen Manager and ensuring wholesome, nutritious food is presented on time to hungry campers and staff. Experience working in a professional kitchen is valued though not required. We will train. Kitchen Assistants are strongly encouraged to take part in clinics and evening programs and experience camp life outside the kitchen in their off time if so desired.
